Biography
Shimooka Renjo’s pupil in 1871, Reïji Esaki opened his own studio in Tokyo in the Asakusa area the same year. He very quickly became one of the Japanese capital’s most seen portrait photographers. He was the first Japanese photographer to use negatives on dry plates which were imported in 1883, making him a very "fast" photographer. He is also known for having photographed: - a torpedo in the River Sumida in 1883- the first fireworks in Japan in 1889
Another of his famous works is a collage of 1,700 babies created in 1893.
