About this photograph :
Au corps à corps
This colourized photograph depicts a fisherman grappling with an octopus. Studio produced, this photograph is completely staged. A production of images such as this responded to the high demand by Westerners at the end of the 19th century. Fond of exoticism and folklore, they collected these images from a different world.
