About this photograph :
Camille et Paul
Godard emphasises bright colours in Le Mépris (Contempt) filmed in 1963. This use of saturated colour gives it a very stylized Sixties feel.
"The whole of the second part is dominated, regarding colour, by the deep blue sea, the red villa and the yellow sun, reminiscent of the trichrome used for authentic antique statues."
In his films, Godard questions the use of words, the absence of communication and incomprehension between individuals. These reflections require considering other possibilities to express his thought. Colour and its uses therefore become a means to transcend words and recreate cinematic dialogue for Godard.
