About this photograph :
Skyline
Since the end of the 19th century, skyscrapers have been a symbol of the visual identity of New York. They are mainly situated on Manhattan Island. Numerous buildings on the island form the unmistakable ‘Manhattan skyline.’ It consists literally of the line of the horizon formed by the skyscrapers. Through their height and shape, many of these buildings are easily identifiable. The photograph ‘Skyline’ was taken from Brooklyn Bridge. The line of the horizon is low and the sky takes up 4/5 of the space. Still, only skyscrapers are visible which take up the whole length of the photograph. In this proliferation, the Empire State, the MetLife, the Chrysler building as well as the Citygroup Center clearly stand out.
